After his fresher year at the College of Pittsburgh Cuban, moved to Indiana University. His understanding of supply and need extended far outside the class. Having to generate income to continue on in university (he was paying his own tuition) Cuban started providing dance courses. That venture soon led him to hosting luxurious disco parties at the Bloomington National Guard armory.

After graduating in 1981, Cuban returned to Pittsburgh and took a job with Mellon Bank, simply as the business was ready to switch over to computers.
