James Baldwin was an American editor and prolific writer, mostly known as the children's author in the subjects of legends, mythology, biography. “Picciola” is a short story about a poor gentleman, who has been wrongfully convicted and locked in one of the biggest prisons of France. He is unhappy, and he thinks that there is no one in the whole world who cares for him. The time stretches slowly by. But someday the man finds in the prison yard a tiny green plantlet, which sprouted between the stones, and at this moment the gentleman gets a new friend, who has been named Picciola. James Baldwin was one of the most famous children’s authors of his time and still remains nowadays.
