York today is a mixture of commerce, tourism and general trade. Sad to say, the city has lost its wonderful Rowntree’s factory and most of its railway engineering capacity, but the trade in tourism goes from strength to strength.
The obvious, number one attraction probably remains its glorious Minster. This said the Railway Museum, and the city’s Roman history help to sell York to the world as a major destination. Look around York today, and despite the current financial hardships felt across the globe, there is still a heavy, American, Japanese and European tourist presence to be seen.
