Joseph Rudyard Kipling was an English short-story writer, poet, and novelist, who wrote tales and poems of British soldiers in India and stories for children. The Kipling’s writer masterpiece is characterized by portrayals of people, history, and culture of his time, so Kipling was one of the most popular writers in England, in both prose and verse, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. 
Published in 1888, “In the pride of his youth” is a satirical short story, included in “Plain Tales from the Hills”, a collection of stories of life in India. A secretly married man goes away to work but cannot afford to bring his wife who then meets another man.
