At six years of age, the orphaned Windwalker, a.k.a., "Walker", is given to LDS Placement Services by the Navajo Indian tribe to be placed with an LDS family who plan to adopt him. In the loving and gospel-centered environment his foster home provides, Walker matures physically, mentally, and spiritually. Now, at age 15, as he and his foster family anxiously await the tribal consent needed for his adoption to take place, he has a vision in which he is entrusted with the responsibility of getting an urgent message to his people which will help them to accept the gospel of Jesus Christ. As Walker prepares mentally and spiritually for the mission he has been given, he and his foster family make plans for the long-awaited adoption. They are unaware of the forces working against them to make sure the adoption never takes place. When Walker finds out who is responsible, he puts together a diabolical plan to get revenge. His heart now filled with hate, and his mission to his people all but forgotten, he puts his plan into effect and his life spirals out of control. As a result of the choices he has made, he contracts a terminal illness and goes to live alone on a mesa to await his impending death. He realizes that he has now reached the point of no return.
