So, why did Liset Cortes spend so much time courting the next thrill? Adrenaline junkie? No. A death wish? No. Liset loved her life and had accomplished basically everything she had ever undertaken.
Yet she didn't feel satisfied.
After climbing the ladder of occupational success, Liset had latched onto the closest man she could stomach for a relationship without benefits. Ethan Monroe and his brutish personality could not offer her more than a superficial attraction, but he at least kept her life from being boring, what with his penchant for volatility and near-manic drive for conflict.
In her line of work, danger was easy to find, and find it she did, in her relationship, in the cases she accepted, even in the way she isolated herself from anyone who would notice. Still, her restlessness chafed like sandpaper clothes.
When all her risks began to catch up with her, Liset's life headed down a dark path. Since she had forsaken all real relationships, no lighthouse lit her way or gave her direction. Completely alone - as she had planned it - Liset suddenly found herself facing an enemy whom she could not best, and she felt compelled to ask herself: if I died today, would anybody care?
Staring death in the face, she realized the heartbreaking answer to that question, and God only knew if Liset would ever get the chance to remedy her mistake.
