The Billy Penland series is a Texas tale of living, loving, and fighting the war against evil. Billy married Rhoda Cupps and they brought eight children to earth during the first fourteen years of their marriage. From 1880 to 1915, Billy worked with law-abiding citizens, and the Texas Rangers to rid Texas of cattle rustlers and cut-throat gangs. His long absences from the plantation and his family, and his drinking, began to cause Billy's solid marriage to crumble. His sister Mandy intervened, sobered him up, and counseled him to take Rhoda and the children to Coleman for a year so that Rhoda could help care for her ailing mother. Billy, knowing that he was at a crossroads, selected his course of action carefully in an attempt to save his marriage.
