Emma Fields could not imagine her life would end like this.
Young and bright with a good head on her shoulders, she excelled at her studies at the University of Venia. Although it seemed to be a mundane existence, she embraced the normalcy that is her everyday life.
Without warning, a stranger shows up to one of her lectures one day. No matter how much she tries to pay attention to class, there is something about the stranger that draws her gaze. In the split second their eyes meet, she sees the colour of his irises change to a grey shimmer. But, because of her levelheadedness, she shrugs this off as just her limited imagination playing tricks.
Later, she and her best friend, Laurie, strike up a conversation with a passing acquaintance about the mysterious murder of a schoolmate. As they talk, Emma is filled with dread knowing that the killer is still out there lurking in the shadows. On the other hand, Laurie is more preoccupied with an upcoming party that they plan to attend together.
As they show up to the party in full swing, Emma puts all thought of the stranger and her murdered schoolmate in the back of her mind to enjoy herself for once. She even runs into a familiar face with whom she engages in flirtatious banter. As they dance together, she finds herself feeling lightheaded and blacks out almost instantly.
Bound by her arms and legs, Emma is left immobile in complete darkness. The chill of the shadows that surround her seeps into her bones. Fear rises up through her chest as she soon as she realizes that she’s going to be the next murder victim. As she awaits her inevitable fate, the only thing she can see in the darkness is a pair of grey and shimmering eyes.
