Two friends travel to rural Ireland, where they find a strange house on the shores of a lake. Inside the house they find the diary of a recluse who recounts traveling to other dimensions through a chasm under the house and fighting off strange beasts. In addition to traveling to the dangerous dimension, he also travels to a peaceful place where he is reunited with his lover, who warns him of continuing to explore. He is rescued by his dog on multiple occasions until the dog is infected by the creatures that have followed him back his own dimension. He is also infected by the disease that killed his dog and becomes locked in his study from the outside. By the time the two friends find the house, it has fallen into the chasm and all that is left are a few fragments including the study.
