Mink is the only one ever in the history of Georra not to know his Elemental affinity. That’s a big problem for an Elementalist. Even their enemies have a good idea which Element their souls resonate with, and the Machinists eschew Elemental use. Which one is it? Lightning? Air? Spirit? Water? Wood? Soil? Body? Fire? He has to know. His parents have to know. But… Finding out is going to have to wait. During their not-exactly legal exercises on the far-side-of-nowhere, Mink and his parents discover a Machinist scout who finds more than just a mother lode of ore. He discovers a fabled Tear of God! With that much power, the first country to claim it would be impervious to the rest of Georra. Only, this geode is larger than any building, and buried deep in the ground. The race is on as Mink’s parents stand guard at the Tear of God, sending Mink back to get help. The sixty-four members of the Octernal High Council play their political game with the boy without an Element, casting doubt on his parents’ salvation. As luck would have it, they decide the most expedient way to retrieve the Tear of God is to have Mink lead an army disguised as a Youth Camp back to where he found it. Maybe this is the edge he needs to get Gyov to finally notice him. Maybe Blin will stop bullying him. With a little help from Dreh and Pulti, Mink just might wind up an integral part of a global turning point and discover his Element along the way. Still, they will need to avoid the death-worshiping Reeks, who turn the corpses of their kills into puppets. It is high time Mink shows everyone how not having an Element has made him smarter and better with weapons. But, getting recognized by the geniuses of his generation will take no small degree of wow.
