Ink Stained Wretch: A collection of thoughts, musings and caffeinated prose from an old journalist
After working as a newspaper reporter and editor in the 1980s and 1990s, Eric Pulsifer looks backward at a rapidly-changing (some say dying) industry. Life is different for an ink-stained wretch. After leaving journalism in 1997 he kicked around for a few years driving a taxi and working at a railroad yard before settling back behind the keyboard. But he's finding himself at a crossroads. His beloved newsrooms populated by unforgettable characters have morphed into something that looks like generic offices. The writing has changed, too, from in-your-face inverted-pyramid prose to political correctness and bullet points. Rather than cry about it, Eric takes his act online. In this series of essays he looks at the world of ink-stained wretches, at news trends, sports, music, technology, mental illness, hiking and the pain of putting his dog down. Life happens, but an ink-stained wretch is always going to be a storyteller.
