To Gerry, Doreen Grey was just another client, who’d phoned to make an appointment saying she was having strange dreams that affected her sleep. Gerry saw nothing odd about that, in fact a lot of his clients had initially come to him with sleep problems that turned out to stem from deep rooted issues. That’s what he loved about his job, the way he could delve deeper into people’s psyches, finding the real person sometimes hidden from view, but what she neglected to tell him was how her dreams affected her.
While awake, Doreen Grey was an unassuming kind of woman, okay her style of dress was unusual, quirky you could say, but the instant she fell asleep it was as if she became someone else, her character changing from a wall flower to a sexual siren before his very eyes.
But that was not all, before he knew it Gerry found himself becoming enthralled, captivated by this strange woman, who showed him another side of himself; a side he never knew existed. As she became entwined in his life he fell under her spell, living out his own dreams involving not only Doreen Grey but others as well, people from his past as well as strangers. Nothing could have prepared him for this woman, who by virtue of her visits placed Gerry in situations and dilemmas beyond his control.
Who was there for him to turn to for help and advice, he was an experienced councillor with years of knowledge at his finger tips, years of knowledge that faded into obscurity the day she walked through his door.
There are two sides too most people, but with Doreen Grey this was not the case, for her there were two very different people, he wondered if she might have a multi personality disorder but this thought was soon dispelled, when he realised it wasn’t just her characteristics that changed but her complexion along with the colour of her eyes, in fact everything about her.
Was it all mind games or maybe alternate dimensions, could there be such a thing, he’d never considered the possibility before, but then he’d never met anyone like Doreen Grey before either?
All he did know was that the experiences he had with the blond haired blue eyed Doreen Grey, were very different to those he had with the rather demure, brown eyed softly spoken Doreen Grey, and yet what he experienced with one would inevitably bleed over to the reality of the other.
How was Gerry to know the reasons why, to him his life had always been predictable, predictable yet not boring, it was just how he wanted it to be, it suited him really, the tried and trusted, his safety zone you could say. But life has a way of tripping us up when we least expect it, as was the case when Doreen Grey breezed into his life like a whirl wind changing his world forever.
